Process Automation

AI systems handling predefined, rule-based tasks and structured workflows.

Rule-based logic with deterministic outcomes. The workflow runs itself, but only within boundaries someone else defined.

Purpose

Free resources, gain efficiency

Characteristics

Rule-based logic, deterministic outcomes

Examples

Task Automator

Performs a single, predefined, rules-based task with minimal variation, such as an RPA script, scheduling bot, or data entry tool.

Process Automator

Automates a multi-step workflow that includes some logic-based branching, such as HR onboarding or procurement approval.

Workflow orchestrators

Coordinate automation across systems and handoffs, not just a single task.

Important Note

The purpose of each tool category is not to encourage the use of all tools, but to provide groupings that can be safely applied with reduced risk based on your AI Maturity Level. Using complex tools at low maturity levels is ill-advised.
